Antarte materializes sculptures for exhibitions at Ala Siza Vieira in Serralves
Mário Rocha, CEO of Antarte, once again collaborates with the prestigious Portuguese architect to create sculptures, after working together for the Vatican Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
The Inaugural Exhibitions of the Álvaro Siza Wing at the Serralves Foundation have a special collaboration with Antarte. In less than a year, this is the second joint project between the first Portuguese Pritzker, architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, and the Portuguese furniture and decoration brand.
The two sculptures are one of the works with the greatest visual impact in the 'place with most of Pritzker's works in the same space.' Both sculptures were materialized by Antarte in a sustainable raw material, cryptomeria wood from the Azores. The brand uses sustainable raw materials in furniture such as consoles, TV furniture, coffee tables, side tables, dining tables, chairs, sideboards, beds and bedside tables.
In his youth, architect Siza Vieira wanted to be a sculptor but later turned to architecture. Winner of the Pritzker Prize in 1992, an award dubbed the 'Nobel' of Architecture, it was at the age of 90 that he fulfilled a youthful wish: to create sculptures.
It should be noted that in spring 2023, the Vatican's presence at the Venice Biennale also included joint work between Siza Vieira and Antarte. The “Encounter” installation, made up of 12 sculptures representing people, was on display in the Vatican pavilion, in the Basilica of San Giorgio Maggiore, between May and November last year.
Mário Rocha, founder and CEO of Antarte, considers that «the collaboration established with “the master” of Portuguese architecture, who is also one of the most prominent in the world, is an honor for Antarte. The challenge of working again with architect Siza Vieira was irresistible, on an art installation that is a tribute to the creative genius of one of the greatest figures in architecture of the 20th and 21st centuries.”
